in my quest to fix a charging problem so far unsuccessful ive discovered a few things ....

it seems you can replace a separate rectifier and voltage regulator on a 1000 with rectifier voltage regulator combo from a 1100 .....all you have to do is hook up the black key switch hot to the 1100 rectifier voltage regulator combo the two plastic wireing blocks hook right up ...the 1000 is just missing one wire the black hot ...did a temp hook up and it worked ...didn't help me it wasn't the problem

there is no one test on stator that says it all about it being good .....it can test out good and still be bad ....kinda like coils that test good but don't work right

a lot of the info in the old manuals dose not line up with the new meters in testing
I tested known good stators that came out bad in test results ...figure in the old manual were simply wrong and all slanted towards stator replacement in my book thanks Honda for the misleading info....or a meter that is no where near accurate

stators like coils ...testing dosnt bring load to the table ...testing all good ...but under load no charging ...

witch led ne to rectifier and voltage regulator ...after extensive testing with other 1000 rec and reg and red and reg combo 1100 mod ..and the cleaning of all connection bigtime ...still no charge ....

then it started to dawn on me ...when idleing on oldwing I could get good reading on out put ...but reality is in oldwings it don't charge till the rpm is up ....so this time I kept the meter hooked up ...and increase the rpm on the yellow wire output test ....two of the wires seemed ok at 3000 rpm ...but the other would faulter at that rpm and show bad ...even though at idle it showed good

so now im thinking its a bad stator again ....even though it has tested good

so if someone wants to rip my thoughts here please do so ...as I want to find the answers ....ive done a lot of things to oldwings ...but this is my first charging problem ever past getting rid of a bad connector block .... :headscratch: :Doh2:

Sounds to me like that one phase of the three phase stator is breaking down under load probably due to cracked winding insulation or cracked winding that can't carry the amount of current under load. It may be doing like a cracked dogbone fuse. Since you've tested it with known good rectifiers, that eliminates the possibility of the rectifier having that phase grounded out. Just my thoughts Joe.

The way I test stator is to connect each phase to a 12 volt battery until you have checked the 3 phases and the final test to ground through the phase leads. Example 1-2 2-3 1-3 and then 1,2,3 to ground. Before doing this high current test check circuits with ohmmeter otherwise you might end up with big sparks.

pretty much did exactly like you said ansimp .........I gave everything a rest for overnight ...but today I see myself yanking the motor ....apparently these thing go out in non detectable ways at first or can ....and only show under load ....and then progressively get worst to wear a meter can detect it better ....

ive messed with it enough to see it getting worst .....just saying theres a point that detection is hard to make ....and I say its at the beginning of failure ...just starting to go bad ....

Sometimes you just know what has to be done. Also a visual inspection is part of normal stator evaluation and unfortunately there is only one way to do that. A man with your experience should be doing it blindfolded :ahem:
