Greetings to all of you! I appreciate the opportunity to be here and learn to keep a great bike runnin' down the road.
Last spring (2011) I purchased a 1981 Interstate. It has one owner for 29 years and its second owner only one year. The second owner didn't want to mess with keeping an older bike up, so I got what I thought was a great deal on a bike that was running very well with 38,000 on the odometer. Paid $1450.00 and was able to run it some this summer with only some minor upkeep and one major upkeep item.
My buddy thinks the bike belonged to the Village People in a former life because it has about 100 chrome studs attached to it all over the place to jazz it up. Can't say I necessarily like all of them, but they are there and done well, just not sure they are my cup of tea. We simply call the Wing "STUD!" It does tend to draw a crowd when out and about.
The major upkeep was to me not the bike....left knee replaced in late May so missed 7 weeks of riding time. The minor upkeep to the the bike was new rear tire, oil change and the the voltage regulator that controls the temp guage replaced.
The bike is now stripped down and in the basement and in the process of a winter upkeep including timing belts, new hoses, brake rebuilds including cylinder, calipers, pads and new stainless steel lines as well as some new exhaust tips.
Looking forward to spring/summer. Have one major cross country trip planned this summer on "Stud" and
