to me all a person needs is one vacume gauge .....set the vacume on one side of bike between the carbs then the other side of bike ....then set the sides to match each other you don't have worry about gauge differences and stuff ...and I think its better ....and certainly easier it seems than messing with all that stuff

I like 4 readings at once since I've dicovered problems in the linkage by watching all 4.
I've tried with 2 gauges but found that when snapping the throttle and coming back to idle, the readings can vary and had me chasing an unknown variable until I saw what the sync was doing with 4 gauges.
I have the needle gauge type, never tried the sticks.

i see your point Joe, and one gauge would take any calibration between gauges out of the equation but would definitely take some good note taking to get it rite from what i have been watching on the various you tube video's.

I picked up the four gage set on the blue metal panel. Went to Walmart and got a six valve aquarium air pump manifold to dampen the readings and I check the calibration when I use it by sucking down a vacumn on the whole set at once. If they are equal, good to go.

I also picked up the permanent adapters for the carb test ports and installed them. Makes the job much easier, but you need to find silicone covers so they don't degrade due to the heat.

Vegaswingnut and I used the sticks and they worked well.

I'd have to see sticks versus gauges side by side to say that for sure.

The main reason they are more accurate is because you are looking for a level line and it is really easy to see. Can't beat David's mercury unless you break them, then it takes you back to childhood playing with that "quicksilver ".

if im going to snyc its not at idle ...I want to do it after the advance is open ...this makes its nice and smooth just before torqe curve ...I think gauges are the only thing here to use

Just looking for an even vacuum with gauges. That doesn't mean they are any less accurate.

Agreed

I have the Emgo kit and it is real easy to use (and I don't have to worry about sucking mercury into my carbs!)

I made my set of vacuum gauges. I bought the gauges at Grainger for about $10 each. The hardware and vacumm hose from Home Depot for about $25. And I bought air line regulator (aquarium parts) from Petco for about $4. The white nylon block is some material I have laying around the shop. Total cost was just under $70. You have to use the air line regulators or the needles bounces way too much to adjust. just restrict it enough to where it is barely bouncing, and you'll be good to go.

I use a single gauge like Joe. I have two hoses (one from each of the two carbs I'm matching) run into a tee fitting and to one guage. I kink off the hose for the carb I'm not reading with my fingers and then kink off the other to compare/adjust. Works for me and cheap too.
