Hey guys I just finished a 4000 km tour of Washington and Oregon on the 101 with my wife on our honeymoon! Before I even left Canada my tach cable started to whine real bad. Luckily I brought one of every cable extra for the trip just in case. :clapping:

Turns out it was the original on the bike, it made 53 000 km and 33 years.
What kind of time you guys getting out of the cables? Did I make my full life before I replaced it with its $17 new one? :smilie_happy:

My original had only 28k miles when it broke. Admittingly it had not run for 13years and it only lasted for a short while when I started riding the bike again. Replaced with a new one and that only lasted 200+ miles ( speedo was frozen/ binding). With the next one I started spraying silicon spray into the speedo where the cable connects and so far 2000 miles with repeated spraying of the speedo. Just did it today before my ride.

any time I get a bike part of the initial maintince is to lube the speedo and tach cables so like omega I don't know how old the cables are

My problem wasn't the cable lube but the speedo bushes/ bearings :(

remove and clean and lube every few years and it should last forever.
