I got some good progress on the Goldwing today. Radiator and carbs off, new timing belts on. Tomorrow I'll take the cars to work to measure them so I can finish designing the new single carb manifold. I'll be delayed because the guy I bought the carb from messed up the shipping. I was glad to see the radiator was in very good condition.

Those carbs are a real pain to get out. Now, I did not remove the heat shield which I believe also hangs the engine. That made it harder. Still, we had to take the covers off the top to get enough room to get them over the coolant tubes. And the throttle linkage was a :sensored: . I can't imagine getting them back on.

Ditto on getting the carbs in/out. After a few times it gets easier. I too am interested in the single carb swap. There is so many posts its a job to wade through. The plastic intake looks interesting. Would like the cliffs notes version on what works best for the shade tree mechanics.

+1

I know what you mean. There are several other websites, some youtube vids plus all the talk about it here. On top of that people get differing results, some good some disappointing. I think consensus is it will never perform as well as the original 4 when they are working perfectly after 30+ years of use. So what if top speed looses 10mph? I'm not going to race the thing, I just want it to be simple, dependable and easy to fix. How many 30+ year old sets of 4 carbs work like they did new, or how much will it cost to make them that way? Especially if you're rescuing one that's been sitting for years!

My exact sentiment.
Fortunately I won't have a chance to get used to stock carb rack installation. :hihihi:

Okay, so I didn't get to it as fast as I'd hoped. I'm still toying with building one out of hardware store parts just to test the carb and see the old beast run. Maybe with this long weekend.....
