The plus side is that there is no destructive costs similar to cruise missiles. Those go for $1.4 million every time they are launched. A laser has no real cost every time it is fired.

Looks like it ignited a preset explosive. Probably a ways to go still.

In that test for the boat pulled target it did, but the energy of a laser should render anything useless. Airplanes - forget about it, it won't fly for very long... missile launchers - well that's just another preset explosive. :mrgreen:

I remember reading about this 747 that had a laser to be used for ballistic missiles.

The size of the laser is getting smaller, so I think the technology is getting better.
