Waffle Iron...Mr.Coffee...Juicer...Blow Dryer...?

Ok, I haven't even looked yet, but I want to charge my cell phone, camera batteries,(if possible) and ad a fuzz buster to the wing. I'm thinking power outlet (cigarette lighter type) just because I don't know what else there is. But I'm receptive to other peoples thoughts. I have a Vetter fairing with a nice little circle boss on the lower left part that looks like it was made for a power outlet. Just to keep wiring spagetti to a minimum, I thought it would be convenient if I could tap into the fairing plug. Can anyone who knows more than me tell me if this is a no-no? Also, would a small power inverter draw too much to be of any use? I'm talking about an inverter with maybe 200-300watts max. This would be used for charging camera batteries on the go, which I really don't think is gonna pull 300watts. I don't have a stereo and don't think I can't live without it. There are iPODs in my life if need be. My main desire at the moment is to be able to recharge a cell phone, rechargable flashlight, and run an early detection device in those longazz 55 zones. :lazy: (can you tell I'm planning a trip to the desert?) :yes:

I think dumb ideas are sometimes the best one's

I would run a separate 14 gauge positive and negative pair from the battery to the power outlets because the bikes wiring is tapped pretty much to the max as it is.
An inverter is a good idea. You could put it in one of the bags or trunk or even the fairing wherever it'll fit and access to the plugs.
Of course make sure to put a fuse at the battery on the positive and ya know, since you'll probably be the only one with a slick

The Vetter wiring harness has a tap for 12 VDC for accessories that runs back to the ACC fuse on the fuse block. I put a lighter adapter in mine in that very spot and use it for charging my cell phone. I replaced my radio with one that has an iPOD cable built in that interfaces with the radio and a remote (which I attched with velcro to the tank).

There is a 12 gauge black wire and a 12 gauge red wire that come out of the harness for this purpose. I have attached a PDF of the mounting instructions for the Windjammer V faring which includes a wiring diagram. :laptop:

Mine has a ciggy lighter in the fairing. I use that for my Escort 8500. My stereo is also tied into that same wiring, as are my driving lights. I intend to remove the driving lights from that circuit, but I haven't yet. If I have aneed for more than one "power outlet", I have a splitter for the outlet that "Y"s off into two outlets that I can use for my phone, and still run the detector. :mrgreen:

Yep, them Vetter farings are very versatile! The wiring is easy and fits right into the Honda wiring. I love the fact that the lowers come off so easy! I take them off when it gets hot so that my feet do not roast and put them back on in the fall to keep my feetsies warm.

There is also a fair amount of storage in it. I really loaded it up when we went camping. Having an iPOD with a remote makes the trips more fun as I get to pick my music. :thank_you:

I would recommend that you use a marine type plug, instead of a lighter type outlet, because the lighter plugs aren't waterproof enough and will rust up pretty quickly, or short out in a heavy rain.

You could also run it through a relay so that it is not on unless the key is on...(inverter will run 24/7 unless you do this)... and as for the driving lights, stereo, escort power, if these were run all atonce and peaked you could blow the fuses and maybe smoke a wire.. I pla on running my cig lighter and driving lights off the same power wire except that I am gonna put a relay in the power line that will throw the power to the lights and cut off the cig lighter.. don't figure I will have 2 high power items running at same time..1 fuse on the battery side and power the relay off the acc connection..

if you need more drying power than a small hairdryer you could always attach some flex hose to the tailpipes :shock: LOL

When I used to ride my '81 Suzuki year round, it got pretty cold up here in Northeast country. I would wear a snow suit, rubber boots and ski gloves. Riding for more than 2 hours in 30 degree weather, I would stop occasionally, take my gloves off, put them behind the exhaust and warm them up for a few minutes and on my way again! :music:

I don't think I'll be running the dryer and microwave at the same time, but you never know?

Yea, I wired on in like that to run my GPS and Cell ph charger. Works great and absolutely no draw.
