On news broadcast, talk shows hour long cooking competitions, commercials asking if I want a culinary degree..
I have a cookbook and tried some recipes but you need 10 or 15 different ingredients that you will use only part of and spend an hour or two cooking and another hour cleaning up, if you go out and get a nice dinner it cost twice as much and get half less only it looks artsy fartsy, Its going in my belly not on the wall and hour later flushed down the pipes.
I don't care how pretty it looks.
Are there really enough people eating out spending $50 on up to give careers to all these people they are training to be chefs, or are they working at burger king waiting for the phone to ring.
Is cooking really that significant?..Seems fishy.

That's why Americans are so overweight. FOOD FOOD AND MORE FOOD ON TV.... wHY DON'T YOU EAT SOME MORE....
Seems to be an obsession all the sudden, like the food and restaurant industry got together and created an artificial buzz about cooking.
The one show I remember was the galloping gourmet on once a day around noon and that was it, the news talked about news, talk shows talked current events. Kinda strange how in the last 5 some years cooking shows got so popular.
Just doesn't seem exciting enough to spend so much time on.

Don't forget all the PBS cooking shows that have been on forever and Martha Stewart and Julia Childs and others that were on during the galloping gourmet time. Many of the cooking shows now are more about "healthy" eating. Some are fixated on anything to do with soy products. It's all in what you like. I like the Hells Kitchen shows. Gordon Ramsey really cracks the whip.

Stop talking about food you are making me hungry!! :smilie_happy:
Someone give this guy a box of donuts! :smilie_happy:

Well Nr 1, they are cheap to make, and you all get enthusiastic rush out and buy stuff. EG Jamie Oliver endorsed a two piece shaker with a very hard and heaver rubberised ball in it, instead of using a pestle and mortar, or a garlic press, you put in a couple of garlic cloves and shook it for 2 minutes, where up on you will have crushed garlic. Sold thousands of them, even my daughter bought me one for Christmas. Never used it. I have always used my chefs knife to crush and cream Garlic, or slice it or just break it open if used as enhancer or cut the whole ball in two and roast it.

There is only one cook book of real note and that is Larousse, it is the chefs bible. But of course it only covers French Cuisine. So I have Two versions of Larousse a four volume version and a single version. I think I have 45 cook books which cover everything from A-Z and the same with the countries. I just collect them and in turn they collect dust.

And don't forget Jamie he needs to sell just to add to his 45 million pounds personal fortune.

They do seem to push product, how about veal..I have never intentionally had veal but just before I turn the channel they say "coming next how to cook a rack of lamb" sheesh..tired of hearing about lamb.
I watched Ramsey from time to time, The guys makes me angry...cant stand him very long, maybe a nice guy to hang out with but if I worked for him there would be trouble.
I imagine that scare on his face was from someone he pissed off and went to town on his face.

Don't know personally, but he used to be a pro soccer player, it is the way he swears all the time. No need for it.

Keep in mind the winner of his competitions will be basically running one of his high end restaurants as chef. Customers can be very abusive verbally. In his shoes I would want to know ahead of time how the chef I chose would react. I get the same sentiment at work. So let me ask you this. Can you name one person past the age of 2 years that has never been yelled at? It's part of life.

"Are you taking the piss!?" - Ramsey :smilie_happy: We love the guy, takes cooking seriously. We watch all his shows, the best was the Kitchen Nightmares episode in Scottsdale Arizona "Amy's Baking Company," the owners are quite insane.
