What is this connector for? Left side

From this picture you can see the wires for the stator, they are in red. But what is this four pin connector for with the yellow blue and white wires?

Funny thing is I found this connector disconnected, and I think it's been that way for a long time. Why?

Maybe a PO has installed a later 1200 ignition up front? 84 ignition is on the right rear of the motor like the 1100's.
