I have a pair of hd sportster mufflers vintage 2009. Anyone know off hand what size bolts to use on the muffler body for mounting? :thanks:

Has anyone actually installed a set of Harley take-offs on their 78-79 goldwing? I have several holes in one of my stock exhaust cans and am toying with the idea of rummaging through the dumpster at the local HD Dealer :fishin: . No one keeps their stock pipes on an HD so the HD dealer would likely be happy if I took a set off their hands. If it's been done, did you like it? Any other modifications necessary? How about timing adjustment? Did you bike run fine after the install? Post up if you have.

It's been done and there are threads on almost every GW forum about it. I have two sets of HD mufflers and a pair exhaust manifolds off of a 78 just waiting in the wings waiting to be installed.

Installing on a 1000 should be the easiest since the exhaust manifolds are seperate from the mufflers, so all you need to do is make a connecting pipe from the manifold to the muffler and then clamp or weld everything together. The ideal year of 883 Sportster mufflers to get is pre 2003. These are mufflers that do NOT have a cross over tube hole in them. Anything after 2003 has a hole that needs to be plugged. As far as tuning/timing... nothing needs to be done.
