Ok,
I know bike farkeling preferences are subjective, but really dislike the look of the stainless windshield garnish on my bike.

I'm not a chromeaphobe but I think chrome or shiny bit's should be minimal and balanced as accents and not be so overwhelming.

Have any of you guys come up with a nice alternative????

The stock is aluminum, stainless I have never seen but would like to find one, I have a chrome one but find it is lonesome all my itself with just the mirrors for company, I think it needs a chrome headlight bezel and maybe the chrome garnish underneath to hide those acorn nuts next to the vents, but hey!..Those vents look a little lonesome without some chrome vent covers so I would need those too..I think that is enough chrome..Nope!..I wouldn't need a single thing more, well, maybe a set of chrome signal covers.
Painting it will neuter any attraction to chrome you may have.

Terry - this is a non-farkeling zone!!!! :smilie_happy: That being said, Chrome looks good when it is painted over, but I do have a chrome accessory on my Vetter fairing. I put it there to offset the dark color of the gray and the black windscreen when ever I have the short windscreen on.

If I can't figure anything else out I would like it color matched. May be easier said than done, the 33 year old paint is pretty good but it is old.

Contrasting color is much easier than matching. Use your imagination or maybe your wifes. Figure what colors go with the color you have. A muted contrast would be a close match. Bold contrast would be a complimentary color. In your face is probably an appliance white, gloss black , or a color that doesn't fit at all. Whatever works for you. Texture is also another variation you can play with. Could be satin or flat finish or hammered finish or rough like bedliner coatings. There is even paints to make it look like stone of various kinds. Go with a look you like.

Yeah contrast was a direction I strongly considered also. Mine Wing is wineberry so I am trying to visualize maybe a satin black. Decisions, decisions LOL.

Try getting color tabs from Lowes paint section or a hardware store. hold them up to the bike. Some browns might fit with the wineberry nicely. A lot of choices possible here.

If you paint the aftermarket one you have you might find it too much even in black. The stock garnish is perfect in size to my eyes only they didn't come in chrome, only brushed aluminum and black..I have seen the black ones on a faring and they look good and appear right.
Here is a new factory black one as an example..Think it is called satin black.

When I originally posted I said mine was stainless. Upon closer scrutiny it appears to be brushed aluminum with some kind of film (clear) over it.
I really think a black satin in a textured or crinkle finish is right look for mine.

The trim is anodized aluminuminum. Makes the surface a little harder, so it (theoretically) won't get scratched/rock chipped as easy. :good:

If it is aluminum, I would polish it and shine that sucker up and then clear coat it. Chrome is over-rated but polished aluminum is sweet!
So true!

Sorry guys, shiny here looks gaudy and is just too much bling for my taste. I'm going with satin black, looks much better.

Ahhh cool, variety is teh spice of life. Now the garnish on my Crystal is enormous and the most beautiful hyper shiny glossy chrome and I wouldn't have it any other way. :rocks:
