it should work. I built this setup that will work with a weber or a solex. picture shows it with a 30pic but my gl1000 is currently running with this setup but with a 34pict3. It runs incredible and I've put over 1000 miles on it with this.

this is a mock-up of my single carb setup. it uses a type 2 vw manifold, PVC runners for the plenum, a single barrel to double barrel adapter plate, and a pict30-1 carb with manual choke. In the final build which is now installed and running purrfectly is a 1 inch riser and a 30mm to 34mm adapter.

Ive had pretty good luck with finding windshields on ebay. I got one for my CX500 that worked well and looked nice. I need to get one for my gl, I think it was made by National Cycle. they are easy to install. I'll try to find a picture of mine, or you can see it here at this website...
