1984 gl1200
Just back from a 2000mile round trip on my 1984 gl1200, stator packed in 8 mile from home, lights off and limped back.
I’m in the uk, any one here done a version of the poor boy and what alternator did you use.

See my easy to do 1 thru 7 part videos of the entire Installation on my You Tube channel of Max1chase1 not looking for views or making money just helping people to keep these bikes on the road, hope it helps.

When do the stators pack up and leave? And is it because it shunts all available power to ground instead of having a more modern mosfet regulator/rectifier?
Reason I'm asking is because I have a motor with roughly 20000miles on it and wonder if there is something preventative I can do while it's still on the garage floor.

Since you are in the UK, that is where I purchased my 4" aluminum pulley from RDG Tools in the UK.
