- 1982 gl1100 interstate
I'm David, I had a 1976 gl1000 back in the late 90s, but was forced to sell it. I've grown up on motorcycles since I was 8 years old. Anyway, I hadn't had a bike since my goldwing, and I'd sold it in 1999. I was browsing thru Facebook marketplace and found a 1982 gl1100 not too far from me. The seller disclosed that the engine was locked up, but from what, he couldn't say, he'd bought it at a estate sale as he collects all things goldwing. Anyway it had sat for 4 years, the last year outside. Water had got in thru the air cleaner being missing and the cover off. Right bank looked like the Titanic. Brakes didn't work, cables were seized, tires hard and dry rotted. To anyone else, it's hopeless. But I used to have a shop working on bikes, ATVs, and small engines, so it wasn't really difficult. It also helped that I became fast friends with Kevin, the guy who sold it to me, he gave me a good engine he had, and a ton of goldwing parts. I've been slowly going thru every system, rebuilding, replacing or refurbishing, and painting the frame and engine to factory color. I've just rebuilt the front forks, and once I have my new front tire in place, I can install the engine and start it up. Will still have a bunch to do, but it will be running.
