    Engine Stand

Easiest for me was not to pull the engine out, but to strip and remove the frame from the engine..

    Engine Stand

I cover the garage floor with a couple layers of corrugated cardboard and just roll the engine (minus intakes and water pipes) around to access different parts of it for clean/paint. You have to let the paint cure before setting weight on it (2 week minimum for POR15), but I'm in no hurry.

Points/Condenser ignition system versus Electronic Ignition Systems/Upgrades

I've had points, Dyna, and a system with Ford TFIs triggered by points. Each had their plus and minus features. The stock system requires periodic adjustment and replacement, plus points oxidize if stored in humid areas. The Dyna is set-and-forget unless something causes a failure, and is a bit...

    Exhaust System

Many buy (or dig out of a dumpster) old HD sportster mufflers and adapt with automotive exhaust fittings. My local shop had hauled out a skip pan full the week before I asked. Many were brand new. Seems HD (required by law) omit the most desired feature on their factory machines and new owners...

How to replace GL1000 1975 rear master cylinder

I replaced the rear master on a '79 CB750F with a Chinabay remote resevoir master. Had to relocate one mount hole, but otherwise worked well. Some come with a spare rebuild kit. It is wise to disassemble, clean the dirt and swarf they leave in them out, and reassemble using fresh brake fluid to...

    Clutch time

I've never needed a change. Just make sure it is correctly adjusted, and never run additives or fuel-conserving oils. BTW, our show is Sept 30th this year!

Old Gold - New to Classic Gold Wings

Yes, IMHO, the '79s were the most refined and trouble-free of the GL1000s. If you crawl under it, you might notice extras gussets that were added to the cross-bar that mounts the center stand pivot. I only sold my '79 to make room for more projects. Welcome, and enjoy.

    GL1000 family owned 30+ years

Welcome! I have a red '75 that will be my next project. If you plan to re-spoke, I would consider clear powder coating (polished first). Actually, just cleaning and annual waxing will keep them nice.

    Shaft leak

Wipe it down well. Clean all sufaces with 91% isopropyl alcohol. Ride it a bit and put it in a darkened garage. Use a UV flashlight to locate leak sources. Some folks like dusting it all with talc to locate leaks. Don't be suprided if it turns out a fork seal is leaking.

86 Goldwing -- Looking for Advise

Welcome. Afraid I will give my own opinion bluntly on this. If you don't have the talent, tools, and time to do it yourself you wll never get back what you pay for having someone else work on it. I would suggest to sell it if you don't feel good working on it yourself.

    1985 GL1200 Limited ECU Replacement/Upgrade - Part 2

Yes, "stuff" is a kind way to put it.:)

    1985 GL1200 Limited ECU Replacement/Upgrade - Part 2

Really? No bits of Romex or other building wire lying around? Check building sites (although they probably use 14 gauge now).

    No good...

Not sorry for the perp, but that maneuver against a motorcycle could easily have ended in serious injury or even death. I can see the shysters having a field day.

    Head Gasket sealer ? 1976 GL1000

PartsNMore also carries valves for them. After having severely pitted seats ground, all I had to do with the new valves was install with new stem seals. I have Permatex spray-on copper coat head gasket sealer, but have never used or needed it on the three sets of heads that I have done. BTW...

    Pennsy Rider

Search is your friend. The neutral switch is oft addressed. I use a plastic wedge made for wedging saw cuts when tree felling to hold the frame away from the engine (once I get it pried away).

    New gasket

It isn't mentioned in the manual that I recall, but some use a little Hondabond in the corners (sharp edge next to the bearings). I usually use Indian Head gasket "shellac" to hold the rubber gasket to the cover while installing the advantage to this product is that it is soluble in acetone, so...

    Head Gasket sealer ? 1976 GL1000

Page 5-17 Basically, if you take the (very thin) Stelite surface off, the valves will rapidly wear. Luckily, valves are available and reasonably priced.

    1985 GL1200 Limited ECU Replacement/Upgrade - Part 2

Simple to do with just a piece of #12 or #10 copper cut to the same length as the resistor. The hard part is getting the resistor out on some.
