Running on less than 4 cylinders

Riding home on my 79 gl1000 the other day and started running on 2 cylinders or my be 3 but feels like 2. It would kick in occasionally but in 15 miles on a couple times. Where should I start? Carbs? Electrical? Just getting a few ideas.

    Nuetral light

Where's it located? Front or shifter area?

    Nuetral light

Have a 79 gl1000 that the nuetral light stays on all the time. Understand it might be stuck or just bad. Where's it located and does oil need to be drained to fix or repair? Thanks all..

    Thanks. I'll look for it.

    Idle speed

Purchased a 1979 with 30000 miles with supposedly gone through carbs bit it idles at 2000 rpm. Not what I want. Anyway to lower it With an adjustment? Thanks.

    Voltage reading

No accessories. All stock 1979 to my knowledge. Reading is strictly from the tank gauge. Just running at 70 I noticed the meter reading around 11 volts. I'd never seen it that low but this is a new acquisition so I'm seen trying to figure it all out. Thanks for info.

    Voltage reading

Seems voltage is higher running at a lower speed. 11 volts at 70 mph. 12 volts at 50 mph. Does that make sense to anyone?

    Dieletric grease

Thanks. Figured a good cleaning and the grease would solve the problem assuming nothing damaged. Thanks for the input.

Welcome. I too have a new 1979. So smooth. 30000 miles so lots of life left. Have fun and enjoy.

    Dieletric grease

Would dielectric grease work in the stator plug that seems to cause some people problems? Seems logical to help corrosion and make good contact.

    Main fuse blown

Well it lasted 44 years so I'm hoping just a replacement will do but I hear what your saying on replacing. Thanks.

    Main fuse blown

Thanks. That's what I'm hoping for.

    Main fuse blown

Could it be just age? Say it was the original one would corrosion cause it to blow prematurely? It was in pieces but that may just because it was hot. Thanks again.

    Main fuse blown

30000 1979 gl1000 that had the dreaded main fuse give way. Seems this has happened a lot so first question is why? No added electronics. Low miles. Secondly is there a permanent fix or just carry plenty of 30 amp fuses? Thanks again. Been a long time rider and owner but only my second wing as...

    Engine guards

Thanks. That might be the easiest thing to do.

    Engine guards

Thanks. Any idea on 1979 horns being weak? Were that way from the factory? Thanks all.

    Engine guards

Does any of the engine guards for the gl1000 fit a 1979 or are they year specific? Thanks.
