    Coolant replacement

The fan is the next issue. I have yet to hear it run.

Way to burst my bubble :-)

    Coolant replacement

SUCCESS!!! I took everything apart again. When I opened the radiator cap, I could not see any coolant. I was able to add an additional quart. I ran it for a bit and saw no air bubbles. I put it back together and went for a 45 miles ride, across the prairie, up and down some good hills. The temp...

    Coolant replacement

When the engine was hot, I filled the overflow tank to between the low and high marks. It is in the same place this morning. So, it does not appear to be sucking the coolant back in. Now that it has been mentioned, I have never noticed the fan running. I would think, as hot as it got the other...

    Coolant replacement

My trip was only about 5 miles. The temps are in the 60s. I will go out in a bit and see if it sucked the coolant back in. If not, then what? The gauge went to just a bit below red. It went there fairly quickly, considering it NEVER went past vertical before the change. Oh well, it will...

    Coolant replacement

Well, I got it done. The hoses looked good. The thermostat looked new. I put on a new cap. The fluid looked like new. I wonder how old it was. I was expecting about 3 quarts to come out. There was maybe two. That's all that went back in as well. I let it run for a while until I wasn't seeing...

    Coolant replacement

If I remember correctly, there are only 3 bolts holding the false tank on?

    Coolant replacement

OK. Obviously I'm an idiot. I went to the garage this morning for this quick little project. I had a new cap and new hose in hand. No thermostat available locally. I grabbed my Haynes manual and started in on it. :read: 1. "Remove fill tank and tip it over to drain it." BS! There ain't no...

    Coolant replacement

I will swing by NAPA after work and see if they have those. Thanks for the numbers.

    Coolant replacement

Well, I did go to Reseda HS for one week, in 1966. :-)

    Coolant replacement

I would think a blown head gasket would cause some white smoke. I don't see anything out of the ordinary.

    Coolant replacement

My 81 has 24,000 miles on it. I think it is probably running the original coolant. This weekend will provide some time to change it out. Last week I checked the overflow tank (bike was warm). It was empty. I added coolant until it reached the 'full' line. Over the next week, every time I...

    Rear Air Shocks

I'm sure there was almost zero air in the shocks! I have put almost 900 miles on it this summer and the warning light just started coming on a couple days ago. It took that long to finally dissipate.

    Rear Air Shocks

Ahhhh.... what a pleasant ride to work. Still mostly dark, sun just coming up. Weather crisp & cool. Fog blanketing the river. Funny how you miss that stuff when your brain is being jarred mercilessly by every bump in the road. :music: The bike was still holding air this morning. No red warning...

    Rear Air Shocks

It wasn't on the center stand, but I will remember that going forward.

    Rear Air Shocks

Let me (potentially) throw my hat into the "stupid" ring. I went out and removed the bags to get at the shocks. I gave them a look over. No sign of any fluid leaks. So, I let all of the air out of them. Then, I grabbed the bicycle pump and pumped them up to 50 psi. I checked them with the air...

    Rear Air Shocks

I saw that video. I may have to try that this weekend if I can find any time.

    Rear Air Shocks

How does one know if the oil is low? Is there a way to check and/or add more?
