I got this 82 aspencade It had been sitting a few years PO said back brake locked up thats why he parked it. Ive redone the brakes, timing belts, plugs and new filters gas ,air and oil. Got the bike running. It idles good, just under 1000 rpm, but the front right header is cold. I get spark when i put a spark plug on the wire and turn the motor over . The carbs do leak gas into the cylinders if I leave the gas on. Took the carbs off acouple of weeks ago found in the air chamber on that cylinder the float was hung up cleaned it up got it gliding on the spring like the others. the carbs in all were pretty clean. Cleaned all the seats and valve on all four bowls. Still have gas leaking. I didnt mess with the float adjustment . I stood it up like on the ranken site they were both hanging the same . Im going to pull them out again (tonite or tommorrow) and try this again Im guess this is why top speed about 60 mph, sluggish ( hell barely make it up ) on hills. Any trick to sitting these floats ??

I do some things differently than most.
The way I set floats is by laying the rack upside down then gently lift the float til its just barely pressing on the center pin of the needle valve.
I then prop the carbs up on their end and recheck adjustment the usual way. Works very good for me this way especially with
my weak eyes.
The last 2 racks I've done this way the settings were dead on when verifying them standing on end.

Ok dan i flip the carbs uoside down ( floats up )raise the floats till they just touch. then ???Im lost on that step going out back now to pull them ill check back in the am

Hes saying flip it upside down, lift the floats up completely, then start to lower them back down. when the tang just touches the pin, thats when u measure
Exactly.

Put carbs back on saw no change in power. The #1 cylinder header cool to the touch (but have spark)must still be flooding. Did notice temp was higher than normal. Looked and radiator was low and the oil milky. Just what I needed. Its not smoking out the pipes or leaking on the ground that mean Head Gaskets ??? Any other test to make sure its the gasket not a water pump or anything elses?????

blown head gasket will cause cooling system pressure beyond normal. hooked long hose into overflow nipple at radiator. fill clear soda bottle with water and stick hose in it below the water level. run bike at around 3k rpms until fan runs thru 2 cycles....severe bubbling in soda bottle is blown head gasket. minor to no bubbling is good.
