I work at a triumph dealer, trust me, you guys only know part of the story. That thing is a monster. Just the tires alone are incredible.

2500cc’s, 221nm of torque, Titanium valves, 13% more power than the previous version, helical cut gearbox, 4 riding modes, optimized ABS and traction control, Plus all new TFT connectivity through Triumph, and it’s 40kg lighter than the last one!. Plus all carbon fiber. It’s incredible.

Let's have the skinny. My friends 2010 R3 is a monster. This is definitely your Sunday driver.
R3 Yamaha? That’s a little bike, no comparison. The R1 though, that’s something.

What's the story with the tires you mentioned?

An entirely new design by Avon specifically for that bike. Higher performance, better grip, better longevity, and it’s massively wide. It’s awesome.

They can’t compete with the rocket three. This new rocket three is the most powerful production bike in the world. It will spank both of them.

I would have to see that to believe it. I don't dispute this new Triumph R3 evolution is a runner, but the R1 is fierce competition. I have a friend with one. The Big Bang crossplane crank technology was unprecedented for in line fours. Sounds like no other in line four I ever heard. And runs like a scalded dawg.

Like I said, line them up, wring them out, then see what sort of spanking occurs...

New Rocket 3: 168hp, 734 lbs wet
2018 Yamaha R1: 200hp, 441 lbs dry

Do the math. Torque not withstanding, my money is on the R1 in a quarter mile race. In fact, I’m afraid my money would be on the R1 in any race. Far more nimble track machine than that 700 pound monster.

However, if you want to talk about just the “fun factor”, double the torque is what you feel when you whack the throttle. And that kind of torque feels really good…

Even the old one is amazing on torque. You crank it up, and the bike jerks to the right every time you whack the throttle. It’s impressive.

It’s my cup of tea for sure a in-line motor running leanthways that’s the way to put a monster motor in a bike..

So very true. I’ve recently seen spy photos of the test production mule:
