The replacement 07 Forester has over 200,000 ks so I decided to replace timing belt (due every 100,000 ks), cam seals, water pump and idler bearings. Before I could do the job the clutch refused to disengage so instead of doing the service items whilst the engine was in the car I elected to remove it.
Throw out bearing had completely collapsed.
New cam oil seal, idler bearings and water pump
New timing belt installed and engine revolved at least 6 times
New spark plug tube seals, rocker cover and cover bolt seals. Old seals in the drip pan

Clutch kit is incorrect so I will have to head out and pick up the correct one which is about another $150. Turns out there were two kits for my year Forester and unfortunately we picked the wrong one. ( always quote your Vin number)

4 wheel wing
4wheel drive wing :good:
I can't believe it took me this long to get a Goldwing (VWs and Subarus for 30 years now)

Jeff it came out the top, you can drop the whole front suspension, engine and gearbox as one unit on the floor fairly easily ( 81 Subaru when it got a 2in lift kit).

Back in with the engine
Water pump was wrong but with a different thermostat housing offer another motor the new one should work
Went to put the exhaust up and it hits the thermostat housing so back in with the old water pump ( it is a replacement pump just don't know how long ago) so all that good cover and timing work has to be done again
Pump installed, engine timed with new belt back on
Ready to start

It's alive :clapping:

Just need to run it to flush out the old coolant, change the coolant, find one missing nut and install the plastic drip/bash plate
