gOOD mORNiNG WINgERS< gREAT Day fOR A rIDE, PROBLEM IS...... THE STARTER NO LONGER WORKS.... DO I HAVE TO REMOVE THIS BEAST OF AN ENGINE TO REPLACE/REBUILD IT?? :beg: I HAVE ALL THE GOODIES, FLOORBOARDS, ENGINE GUARDS ECT. THIS IS MY 4TH WING......LOOOOOOVE THESE BIKES.TRADED MY HARLEY FOR THIS ONE< BUT NEVER HAD TO REPLACE A STARTER. ANY TRICKS, ECT...WOULD BE GREAT

Engine does NOT have to be removed to replace the starter. If you have floorboards/heel & toe shifter, those will have to come off, for sure. Some have said that putting the bike on the side-stand is best, so the gear/chain will not not move out of place while the starter is off.
Others with more knowledge will chime in.
Welcome to the CGW Forums, too!!

Pretty much what Aapple said.
There are different style engine guards, mine doesn't have to come off to get the starter out though some styles might require it. Try first.
The only place I recommend for a new starter anymore is stockers.com because they make them in house and are in fact new and not some Chinese knock off though the last time I looked they were out of stock.

Welcome to the site !! Starters are awkward I spent 15 minutes figetting with it thinking the whole time its never going to fit then all a sudden she popps in !! Go Figure !!!

I just have it up on the center stand, I know you have to depress the shifter to slip it by - just be carefull you dont mess up hte gear inside (maybe a dab od grease to hold it in place) oh and the header has to be removed (or at least I had to remove it)
