I changed my fuel pump yesterday and now o tach. Is there a way to align it when putting it back together, or did I more likely break the bottom of the cable which shows some rust?

Is the speedometer and tach cable interchangeable? I keep seeing the cable listed as speedo or tach.
Its the same cable. If the cable went all the way in and nothing is working, the cable end is busted. Prolly a $10 fix.
Make sure the ends are in the gauges all the way as well. Sometimes those thumb screws can work themselves loose.

The speedometer cable is actually 3 inches shorter, but it works just fine. Thanks to all for the help. I did change the seal while I was in there, apparently I had the forethought to order it. Going to order a couple more cables as spares.
