Are we still talking about stuck pistons?

Welp, I got screwed too. Just found out the above folks, cancelled my tire order and never notified me, but their notes on the order status says I cancelled the order and told them to and to cancel my account and remove my name from their files. You can imagine what I told them. So, if you don't want the same treatment that ansimp and I have received, don't do business with these scum bags. Now I got to check to see if they sent my money back, they said they did but why should they stop lieing now.

Sheesh, wondering if we should start a vendor blacklist thread.

You'd think with the times like they are these vendors would bend over backward to keep customers and get referrals.

I won't say what I told them, this is a family friendly site, but it's not nice to mess with a big ol hillbilly and come away unscathed. When I checked to see if they refunded my money, they had not which they said they did on 3/11, so I called to talk to Ben again and he was gone for the day, so Lorne checked and said they had overlooked refunding it, so they did it while I was on the phone with them. Bunch of lieing jerks. I told them everyone I could think of was going to hear about the way they do business and YES I vote for a blacklist. Very good idea.

Hey Mike, They did refund my Paypal account so I think the same should happen for you but chase them up fir sure. Steve received my tires on Saturday from American Moto Tire with out any hassles and only $13 dearer than the other ******s.

I got a email from paypal saying they refunded the money as I was talking to them on the phone. I think what torqued me off the most was they said there was a note written on the order by an "associate", they wouldn't tell me his name, saying I cancelled the order by phone, at which time I poilitely told him that his associate was a damn lier, cause no one has called me about this order. He said no it's written right here, and I said, So what your doing then is calling me a lier about this matter, then I went to quoting what his own website says in regards to situations like this and he went to heming and hawing, so while I had him on the ropes, I verbaly knocked his ass out when I told him, they screwed up advertising the tires like they did, advertising the shipping like they did and not emailing me like the website says on shipping additons, in other words it was false advertising and this was the only way they could figure out how not to honor it and hoped that no one pushed it to the next level. They apologized repeatedly, I just told them to late for that. I'm not a vengeful person, but I do get even. Now onward and upward to better things.

Good to hear Mike, at least I don't feel like the persecuted foreigner now. They reserve the right to give ****** service to all races and creeds, no wonder they told me that they would go out of business with these sort of deals. I also sent an email to their wholesaler questioning them about recommending Cycle Nation et al now and in the future. I have not received a response.

I think that would be a very good idea. With some rules of how they are added or removed. We don't want folks blacklisted because one person felt bad. But consistently bad service and lies or cheating would make them worthy of listing. I know I'd like to know ahead of time what to expect.

I was able to get to work on the alternator conversion portion of this project and ran into a problem. Looking at the end of the crankshaft, the key does not protrude so the new pulley can catch it.

When I stuck an awl into the keyway it will only go in about 1/2 inch so I'm sure the key is there but has migrated towards the engine. You can't twist the belt pulleys and they've never given me any problems. I didn't find any broken key when I removed the timing covers months ago. Also the slot in the crankshaft is about 1/2 the width of the slot in the pulley,

so I am thinking of building a special stepped key to fit the crank and pulley. Or do you think I should pull the crank pulleys, belts off and start over. I went ahead and installed it without doing anything for now except bolting it up so I could figure out the radiator mount extensions and alternator brackets.

Sounds like a plan with the extra key.It is only a locator and providing the crank pulley bolt is correctly tensioned and locktighted you shouldn't have a problem. Many alternators used to have a key way for the pulley and don't use a key. Make sure you go easy on the belt tension as the belt is now a long way forward of the crank front bearing.

Mike, I'd pull the belts and center pulleys and have a look at the key.
From what I remember the key length forces it to protrude out the front.
If the key somehow has sheared off, maybe someone had them off in the past, anything is possible.

The pulley keyway should be a solid fit to the key btw.

Decided to do as Dan suggested and removed the new pulley, timing covers, new belts and crankshaft timing pulleys. This was a definite learning experience. I don't know about the 1000 or 1100 crankshaft pulleys but I learned that the right belt crank pulley keyway is only cut 1/2 way thru.

IMG01902-20130505-1131.jpg
That explains why the slot appeared to be only 1/2 the width of the keyway cut into the external alternator pulley and my thinking I would have to build a custom key to mate the two together. After studying this for a bit and doing some measuring of the pulley I decided that it wouldn't hurt anything to simply flip the pulley over so that the key would face forward and when tested the new alternator pulley locked into the crank pulley with a tight fit and caught the key as it should.
IMG01904-20130505-1132.jpg
I timed the crank and cams, relplaced the belts, and put the timing covers back on.

Ah perfect Mike.
As I was reading, I suspected maybe someone had flipped the pulley or maybe some bikes came original with it that way.

As long as it all lines up solid and timing is good then you've got it licked.

I may be over thinking here but after putting it all back together, what little part of my brain that still works is wondering if that leaves enough key making contact with the keyway in the crankshaft. The key in the outer pulley is round style and only goes half way thru the pulley so that leaves only half of the half key connecting with the crankshaft and that is the rounded over portion of the key. If that small portion of the key shears off then I could possible end up with a 250 pound paperweight. I tore down the front of one of my spares a few ago for another crank pulley and also removed the rack I wanted to check. I'm seriously thinking about having the crank pulley key way milled all the way thru and having a key cut to run the whole length plus protrude enough for the external alternator pulley to catch. I'm concerned with the additional torque that will be put on that key with the additional needs of turning the external alternator. Am I over thinking this thing ? :headscratch:

With the size of the crank bolt. I seriously doubt either pulley will loosen over time. To Keep an eye on things though put a dot of nail polish right where the two pullies meet. If it ever cracks or distorts it's time for a closer look.

I don't think your overthinking it Mike, just being cautious.

When I did mine I never gave the key length a second thought but I understand what you mean.
I'm the same way on some things and won't stop thinking about it til I'm comfortable with it.

If it helps any, the 1100 crank pulley I'm looking at here on the shelf looks exactly like yours, with the little bit of the key in the crank groove.
