Thought about specific metal fasteners like these:
If you look at the pics in the repair you can see that those wouldn't work due to the distance in from the edge. What Honda did is put a blind nut insert in the plastic cover when it was fabricated. This prevents air from escaping or entering through this area. The original problem I believe came from over torquing. The shoulder screw jammed on the shoulder of the molded in nut. I didn't tighten that much upon assembly and used anti-seize. It's just holding on an air filter cover
