auxelerator pump on the num 3 carb 1982 gl 1100

can anyone help this prob, it says in the book to set the pump 4 thou from the tang that pushes it open does that mean the tang at the end of the rod if so mine is pressed in 1/4 inch at idle, need to know how to set it up thanks rocketman

The adjuster tab is suppose to be 1/4" from the stop
