What a morning...My less than a year old Motion Pro clutch cable failed at the handle, snapped while down shifting to a red light. What a sinking feeling that in moments one knows they are going to be broke down. While waiting two hours for my tow a homeless dude starts fracking with me wanting to use my cell phone. I could tell he was getting agitated so I went to my trunk, got my heavy Harbor Freight wire cutters and told him "I'm going to cave your skull in if YOU KEEP FRACKING WITH ME! He left mumbling something under his breath. The tow guy was great(a biker - crotch rockets) and charged about $50 less than I was told it would cost. Lucky The Administrator that begged me to come work for her 2 weeks ago thinks I walk on water so I won't get into trouble for calling off 2 weeks into the new job. :rocks:

Anyway...Motion Pro, no sir I don't like'm I remember being warned by at least two of our members here, now I know. :head bang:

I found a cable for $12.99 from D2moto(link below) out of City of Industry CA. They have their own warehouse and the cables they sell aren't Motion Pro. I'll let you know how it works out, if it's a good cable I'll be buying another and keeping it the trunk.

Thanks for the link Ansimp but I couldn't get the link to work it want's to use Realplayer but I don't keep that one updated. A Harley rider stopped to help me push Old Girlfriend up a driveway and mentioned a clutchless start and I knew from from conversations here one can shift without a clutch as long as the clutch works...but I just didn't have the stones to get into the throttle during an in-gear start, it just seamed way too dangerous.

Sorry about the link I suppose that's what happens when it comes off an Apple device. Basically it is what we call "Freddy Flinstoning" you push off with your feet and once the bike is moving just select first gear and you are away.I have ridden/driven heaps of things without a clutch release working but I have always stopped the motor and started in gear, this technique means that you can keep the bike running ( charging and cooling system working) without putting a load on the starter. Google " Clutchless motorcycle riding tutorial" by Marko Garcia. I definitely thing it would be worth practising as it could really save you if you were a long way from home.

My XS750's clutch cable broke twice so far.. At least one of them was Motion Pro I think..
The other was a used (stock?) one from eBay.

The second time, I was carrying spare cable so it saved a day.

I now carry spare clutch, throttle cables on all of my bikes.

Has any one checked out Marko's video? I think all bike riders could benefit from it. Maybe the guru (Dan) could post it for me in a format that works. :Egyptian:

 Well I'll be damned... I just got a chance to check that video out. Great stuff, everyone should see this, thanks Ansimp! Gone is the fear of losing a clutch cable. I'm sure one doesn't want to do this unless they have to, but it'll get one home. :rocks:

Like the video says " the trick is to practice this before you need to use it" the same as slow speed maneuvering, practice makes perfect. Thanks to the Guru for making the video available to all.

That $12.99 cable went on like a dream, and my initial adjustment before the test ride was spot on, with lots of room for adjustment! The Motion Pro cable was hell to dial in, taking a couple days making me think the actual cable was too long(very little room for adjustment when dialed in). Also, the M-Pro cable failed at the nut in the clutch handle but the cable was moving freely, I could move the clutch with my hand gripping the broken end of the cable.

The new cable is from Volar Mortorsport Inc. https://www.volarmotorsport.com but I ordered through "D2 moto." Since the cost was so reasonable I plan to order another to keep in the trunk.
