i found out that the main fuse on a 1500 is 55a and was told put two of them in and to use a washer between the fuse holder and the fuses ( are you listining Omega :) ). i got the alternator in place but i'm having a hard time getting it to align, not much space to work in even with a stock alternator. i took a break before comming close to getting peeved
You've got my attention! I thought your alternator went out? Why did you start talking about fuses, and how did you install 2? I think I'm just not getting what your laying down here.

i did replace the alternator but if you use a high output alternator ( i did ) you need to double up on the fuses, stack two of them together ( thats what compu fire says to do ). so i guess that the 55a fuse won't handle the out put of a 95a alternator. i used an alternator from db electric but it didn't come with any type of insturctions so i talked to my friend that had a compu fire on his 1500 and he told me to double up on the fuses and to space them from the holder with a washer

I love Compu Fire's theory about increasing the fuse to 110 amps. The 55 amp fuse is there to protect the wiring in the bike. If you want to take advantage of the high output you could split the wiring out put with 2 wires off the alternator with 55amp fuses one feeding into the load part of the wiring and the other back to the battery. I personally would use a 50 amp auto reset circuit breaker in place of the fuse, if the alternator pushes past the rating of the cb it will trip out then reset eventually reducing the amount required.

Doubling up on the main fuse is ridiculous!

It is a common misconception that fuses (like circuit breakers at home) are there to protect the device they're connected to which just plain isn't so.
Fuses exist to protect the wiring from overheating and causing a fire.

I have a hard time believing that Compufire would suggest doubling up.
Anybody seen this in writing from them?

Strange.
I would say Compufire is opening themselves up to a law suit in the event a bike burned from doing this though I would like to see the instructions from them. Could be another one of those cases with wrong information.

I looked around some and can't find the actual Compufire 1500 installation manual.
Mostly others how-to's.

Doubling what is asked of the wiring with 2 fuses I know is not a smart idea.
Sure guys have been running these like this for a long time but just because it works and nobody's been bit yet doesn't make it the right way to do it.
I haven't looked at the CF manual but even if they DO say to wire it this way, that doesn't make it necessarily correct either.
It's just something I wouldn't risk my bike doing especially since I know what could happen.
