Mine developed annoying brake squeal. Right before stopping. After I bought the bike, I rebuilt the calipers with new o-rings. The pads are old but still a lot of material left. I would say it didn't squeal for the first thousand miles. PO put squeal stop paste thing (pink one) between the back of the pads and pistons. I re-did it but after a few weeks it's back.

I understand this is a relatively common problem. I wonder there are GL specific remedy. FYI, this is a dual piston caliper + ventilated rotor brake.

The pads will probably glaze themselves again with 1k miles even after scuffing them.
As soon as those pads get hot they'll glaze, hard to prevent with a heavy bike.
About the only way to prevent I know of is use the brakes as little as possible.

I've had luck with organic pads such as EBC makes. I run them on the rears of both bikes and am now squeal free. Also, make sure the shims are still in place and in good shape.

BTW, which one is the shim?

I am not sure I understand your explanation.

I now realize that the pads have diffrent numbers (6 and 8). I (actually the PO) might have installed them in a wrong way..
Hmmmmmm...
How do I know which is #8 and which is #6?
The back should say something?
PO (followed by me) put that "brake quiet" pink paste all over so it's kind of difficult see.

EDIT:

Oh actually pads are both #6. #8 is a "spring". I am getting old...
I think I installed it properly but will double check. Thanks.
