I installed new pads all the way around on my '81 1100I yesterday. When I put the new rear tire on last week, I found the rear pads were a hair from being metal to metal, so it was time....again. I just replaced the rear pads a couple of years ago.... :smilie_happy:
Anyway, in searching for the pads, I found some interesting stuff....some places have them listed as being different front/rear, some places show them to be the same. I went to the EBC web site and found that supposedly, the front pads are 1 mm thicker than the rears, and I'm assuming it's because the front rotors are thinner than the rear(originally...not now). I called the Cycle Gear place across the road from the shop, and they said they had them in stock. So...I slides over, and...the one's they had out for me ain't even CLOSE.
So I checked some more, then called the place I got the last set from. They also had them in stock, and I asked, "Are you SURE the fronts and the rears are the same?", and he assured me they were. I took the rears, and one set of the fronts with me to get them, and they ARE the same basic shape front/rear. So, Imma thinking the ONLY difference in the originals, and what other places are selling is the 1 mm difference in thickness. I used the same part numbers front/rear on mine, and of course...it's raining today....so no riding for me today. :crying:
Anyway, if anyone is interested, the EBC number for the pads is FA29, and these pads also fit other Honda bikes, like the 750s, and 900s, as well as a few others....
btw..the FA30 pads are the ones that are 1mm thicker, but they will also work on either end.
:good:
