Left for work last nite and got to the end of my road, went to grab some rear brake and (oh my gosh ) there was'nt any :Awe: :Awe: :Awe: luckily was not going that fast and got her whoa with the front ones. The pedal went all the way down with no resistance at all. Had sprayed the linkage the day before because the pedal was'nt coming up far enough to release the brake lite switch, I had brakes before this happened 2 days before. Had a couple of guys at work tell me that there is an O-ring in the plunger that could cause this. (by the way can't see any wet spots from brake fluid any where) Anyone else run into this problem before ?? Or just some ideas on where to start ?? All nite long at work I'm thinkin master cylinder ?? Well on my way to the garage to take the bag off and the (Nice Shiny Chrome side cover off that we were talkin about in another post) to see what's going on

Oh yeah had put new pads on a couple of weeks ago and gave them a good bleedin also

sometime going through and old system bring it up to par is just what it takes for complete failure with extra movement that created by the work you done ...so you just got to get back in there and keep working on it ....rebuild kit or what every it takes :builder: :builder:

Ordered one this morning (rebuild kit) from my local bike wrenchin shop he said it was from K&L for $49.95 does that sound like it's in the ball park? He thought that was kinda high (was thinkin around $35.00) but he check mother honda and their price was around $70.00. He said it takes about a week to get here in Pa. from Cal.
Thanks for you guys input

Well the ole master cylinder should be in Friday and I have been trying to find a video on You Tube that might give me a better idea as to what I'm getting into and I am having no real luck, any body know of a video somewhere on doing this ?? I know it can't be to awful hard if I just take my time, BUT you know how that can go some times.
Thanks

I have some pics from when I did mine I'll post up later.
They will give a better idea what's needed.

Mostly when working with brake parts everything needs to be super clean and coat everything with brake fluid when assembling.

Hopefully the brake line fitting isn't buggered up like mine was.
It refused to break loose and was already chewed up by a prior owner.
My parts bike hasd a good line so I just cut it off.

It get's pretty grungy under the boot.

Once you've got the boot out of the way, lot's of PB Blaster and digging out the grunge to expose the spring clip.

Once I got the spring clip loose I had to put the cylinder housing in a vise and pry the piston out with the claw end of a hammer.

I used a dremel with a wire wheel to clean the spring clip groove really well.
Be careful you don't grind any material away from the spring clip groove, that spring clip is what stops the piston from coming out of the cylinder and also acts as the pedal up stop so the clip needs to be well seated when assembling.

I went ahead and removed the hose fitting even though I figured I had flushed the system really well not long ago. I thought it would be clean in there but from past build up I had to scrape it clean down to metal. Glad I opened it, the fluid hole was partially plugged.
A paper clip worked good to clean it out, compressed air and a nozzle are handy also.

The kit I got didn't include a new O ring. The old one was soft so I reused it.

Other than that, clean up the boot mating surface on the cylinder, the pedal adjuster threads and use a new cotter pin, also not supplied in the kit.

If you decide to remove the fork shaped part that connects to the pedal with the cotter pin, count the threads or measure where it was. That will put your pedal height back where it was.

If you have any question post a message and we'll get you through it.

Except for the brake line being an SOB I think this condition of the M/C is pretty typical for the age of these bikes if they haven't been rebuilt.
The one I had on the parts bike was frozen beyond repair.

Thanks guys, Hmmm only one snap ring ?? I like that. Was watching a vid on how to rebuild one on a Harley softtail, he was having a hell of a time taking it apart ,the vid ended and I could not find the 2nd part for tips on cleaning & re-assembly
