I have seen on the forums that some bikes the brake pedal controls both the rear brake and one of the front calipers.

Is my 84 aspy one of those bikes? The pedal feels a bit spongy and the rear caliper looks like no fun at all to get at. Are the brakes bled from just the front? Which front caliper does the pedal control from the riding position? Left side ( rider)?

Bike has not sat but it aint been run too much in the past couple years. Tryin to get it right.

Yes your bike has linked brakes ( after 82) and if you look in the gallery for 1200 manuals you should be able to find all your brake information :)

Hand lever for left front, foot pedal for rear and right front as your sitting on the bike. Probably just need to flush the old fluid out and refill with DOT 4 then bleed the system, left front first, right front then rear. It's good idea to do this every year or two as brake fluid absorbs water. If that doesn't fix it, the rear master is not too bad to remove.

If after you bleed the brakes and they feel soft there may be an air bubble trapped in the caliper.. on the fronts you need to remove one caliper bolt and roll the caliper so the Bleeder is at max height.. then rebleed again.. this will fill the whole caliper.. by only removing one bolt the pads stay on the caliper..I believe the rear can be done this way also

Look in your master cylinder to.make sure the bleed back hole is open and working.. ,,,,,,, warning the bleed back could shoot out about 5 inches..,,,,,,, so you only need to apply light pressure and release slowly.. proper function will show ripples in the fluid.. this hole plugs up hard from black hose crap..
