Alright, so my plan is change out the stock (but cut) pipes I have on bear right now, but I remember some people kept telling me that I couldn't unless I had a certain kit for them. As far as I knew, the back pressure would not matter for anything.

Not saying I am going to, but just to make this a little more clear, besides for the noise police and emissions, is there any reason why I can not put straight pipes on Bear?

Back pressure does matter. That however can be adjusted either by the length or ID of the pipes. Or by adding a restrictor. With O back pressure you will get backfiring on decel and acceleration will lag. And you also stand a very good chance of burning exhaust valves. I suppose Idaho is far enough away the noise won't bother me.

Back pressure increases torque, as Slab said riding performance will be down unless you ride everywhere at full throttle
