As usuall I started to work...then came in to read. so the thing I just read says turn the engine with the plugs out hmm. I turned the engine with the plugs in. I dont see how thats bad seeing as how ALL electrics are removed for the big cean up...Am I wrong? is it just so the engine cant fire or is there another reason? did I goof something?
R-E-A-D before working....from now on

The reason for taking the plugs out is while cranking by hand to check for valve interference is to make it easier to crank and so the compression isn't misleading making it feel like there is an interference.

cool I knew it was easier but I just want to move the pistons, bike was laid up for years so Im just moving a little every day with oil in it. gonna actuall do the belts this week end, right now the bike is--frame, engine and forks. everything else is sorted on a bunch of plastic shelves. I got a question though...kind of off topic after electrolisis, is ospho a suitable treatment? or will the gas eat it? I ask cause I know electro treat wont get 100% of the rust and I didnt want to buy some expensive stuff if I can help it. Ive used kreem before but it sucks

Good question! The problem with Ospho is that it will convert the rust, but I think gasoline will eat at the converted metal. Normally, when a surface is clean enough that you use Ospho to get the rest, you still need to use a primer and top coat to seal.

Been a LOT of years since I used Ospho! Worked great when cleaning steel decks on ships after chipping and needle scaling!

Also it's much easier to turn with the plug in place..Dan is correct..
Oh crap when the plugs are out is what I mean guys, duhhh...I'm so stupid...It's funny because today I was turning the crank with the plugs in, too lazy to pull them  I'm always doing homework but it never helps me..

Naw, I made a fun day of it on a hot summer day, I used my pressure washer on it man, because I'm crazy that way, and I used carb cleaner and scrubbed with a specially made wire brush and I used a shop vac to suck it dry and then I used vinegar and let it soak, then the next day I did it all again, it got clean finally..You should never take my advise because I'm crazy ...but my tank got really clean... :smilie_happy: should have seen me blow drying it..with my wifes hair dryer :smilie_happy:

In Canada its $53.00 a gallon - I'm pretty sure you can use it over and over (strain out the chunks)
