I have had an email this morning from someone in China who is threatening to register these Chinese domain names:

"wingovations.cn" "wingovations.com.cn" "wingovations.net.cn" "wingovations.org.cn"

I have replied to them and to their legal representative in no uncertain terms that this is an unethical and aggressive move on their part. I will obviously be seeking legal advice on this too.

The Goldwing fraternity is not stupid, I know, and seeing the .cn on the address will raise a red flag.

I guess their own name is either not good enough or they have generated business problems so that they have to steal someone elses good name.
Their legal advisor has already told them that this is not a good move, but should they go ahead and get approval in spite of whatever I can do, please keep in mind that this is not me.

Unfortunately, there will always be some owners that will not see these warnings, so I hope all of you will make sure that anyone in your circles gets told of this.

sounds like they are acting like the elite ones do ...everything is theres no matter what ...sheesh the elite crapola life ....to big to fail disease.... no law written for them to obey

Sounds to me like someone is trying to get you to pay them some cash to NOT do it. Happens all the time. Let the lawyers duke it out.... :builder:

Yeah, I think you're right. Someone else said the same thing. I don't think anything will come of it, but it sure got my hackles up!

Curious how this turns out since I have no idea what the laws are regarding it, but using someone elses name (even under a different country domain) is just low down sleazy practice.
Leave it to freeloaders to even think of such a thing.

If the website/domain name has not been registered, anyone can register it no matter WHO the real name belongs to. Once they register the domain name, they usually try to sell it to the real people for a ridiculous price....

Like that matters to the Chinese...

the ca means china, and anyone with a bit of common sense would hopefully realise that, however if they try to use that and make an assignation that they are in fact you, then you can take them to court for passing off is your name a registered trademark, if not you could be in for a rough ride. Also you would have copyright but how long that is for I don't know, but if the chinks can put a stolen car design into the same car show as the Rolls Royce and say it is there own design then, you know how much they give a ****. ie none.
but you can do it and pre-empt them You own wingovations.com so no problem

I also have .co.uk, .org, .org.uk

I had another email, supposedly from the legal advisor. Basically, as has been said, they want me to buy these domains. I'm obviously not interested in buying them, so I have decided to just ignore it all and see where that goes.
I reckon that even if they do register as they threaten, I doubt it will make any difference to my business, but if it does I'm sure there are legal ways to stop it. Or as I have said already, I'll change the name.
