Hello all I am having a problem with my fm radio. It doesn't seem to want to tune in. There is much static. Then AM radio works fine. I took the front panel off and there is a round plug sitting in there as well as a green wire that isn't hooked to anything. I havnt gone any deeper anyone have any suggestions?

The antenna on the back is for am radio it doesn't effect fm.
?

OK. radio's need an antenna for both AM and FM.
Usually the one antenna does both. At least on every auto I've ever worked on it did.

If the one antenna served either just FM or AM then the other would have to have an antenna somewhere else.
Where would that be?

That's what I am wondering. I took off antenna and the am goes dead. However the fm isn't effected. I can still kind of hear fm but it has some static and isn't clear.

Oh that's because the radio is picking up a strong station on it's own.
I don't know why it is but AM will go completely dead like that without an antenna whereas FM will still catch some signal.

Then why all the static from fm? I was told that the rear antenna is AM only since prior to the 80s.

FM most definitely needs an antenna. I don't have my 1100 anymore but I do remember a small rectangular box that the antenna plus into and it had two plug holes(radio and CB). did you try putting the lead into the other hole?

I will pull out the stereo module today as I cannot see behind it. Thanks. I know fm needs antenna I was told its a separate one from the am.

Ok so I pulled the fairing box and there is indeed 2 separate antenna plugs. I tried both. They do the exact same thing. Everything else in there looks clean and in good shape. I'm at a loss..

Hmmm... I've heard of some guys shipping their stereos to some place to have them refurbished. Save your self some headache and get a modern stereo, it will sound much better anyway.

The box in the fairing I believe is to run the radio and CB through the same antenna.I removed mine, and added a seperate antenna.
SIERRA electronics is the place to call about repairs for these things.
