I had the bike out and noticed that it seems to make a sound like the clutch is slipping and then catching although it does not feel like the clutch is slipping. The noise happens after the bike gets going (clutch is all of the way engaged) and sounds like a slip and a tiny clunk? Doesn't do it all of the time. I tried to purposely slip the clutch, but it grabs right away. Cracked spring perhaps?

What kind of oil are you using? Could be a clutch "skip".... :?:

Then again... I just saw your post about the new tire. New tires can do that until they burn/wear the mold release stuff off.

gerry the wing has a circular cam drive torque together with a spring that will clunk to the next possition usaly on take off that feels like something wrong ....but in reality its a great stress releaver to the whole package and absolutly nothing to worry about ....ive never herd of one breaking or having trouble ...iguesws they could ......when the mongruel was together and and running strong and i wanted to take off hard this is the first thing to happen was the clunk of stress releif as it took off ....thats what i think your experiencing probably from the new tire extra grip and torque it brings to the bike when new

I am using 10w40 dino per the manual. The tire is not slipping (unless I lean too much), it is more like what Joe described above.

That seems to match what I am experiencing Joe! Makes sense to me! :eek:k:

My clutch will work great until it gets, what I'd consider overheated, then it will engage smoothly until about 3/4 lever then GRAB.
Sometimes it will shutter like after a few stops and starts on a hill 2 up.
I'm talking extremes, almost punishment for a clutch.

I know that clunk your talking about. Oddly mine doesn't do it until the engine is fully warmed up.
I'm sure everything is fine because right after I had the engine out for other things the clutch and all it's workings checked out fine.

Same here Dan. That is what seemed odd to me. With cold oil and cold engine (just past 1/4 on the temp gauge) I could expect a clunk, but it does happen after complete warm up.

thats when the motor is warmed up enough to have the low end torque and power to slip the cam under the spring pressure .....just like you would think ....cold motor has no power to do this

Hmm...this is interesting info. :good: I don't guess I've ever experienced this particular phenomenon on mine...at least not yet....or that I've noticed!

I have an 80 dresser and an 81 with fairing only. Both tend to chatter a bit releasing the clutch if the rpm isn't matched to the release. I'm getting better.
