I took a trip to visit my daughter and son in law in N.Logan, UT.. I left Houston and went to see the badlands and the devils tower before ending up in Casper, Wy. for the night, a distance of just under 1000 miles. The next day was the coldest I've ever ridden in. It started to rain/snow in Rock Springs, WY. and kept it up until I got over the mountain around Ogden, UT.. I had ice forming on my fairing and had to look over the top to see where I was going!! It warmed up in the lower 40s and the rain/snow stopped on the west side of the mountains which I thought was strange, but very welcome! The picture I included was shortly after the cold ride over the mountains. It rained the next day so I didn't look around but I was able to look around on Friday and took lots of photos of some very pretty sites. I left on Sat. for Minnesota traveling on hwy.89 going through the grand teton and yellowstone national parks. While going through yellowstone they had a road condition sign up that said the roads were "poor" and to have chains or snow tires on, great! I had no choice but to go on and, lucky for me, the roads weren't that bad. I stayed overnight in Cody, Wy. and cranked up the heat in the motel to warm up. I got up and took off the next morning and was pleasantly surprised to have one more group of mountains to go through, the bighorn national forest. 17 hours and 1014 miles later, I was home. 2800+ miles in four days of traveling, a personal record. I learned a few things on my first trip out west. Just because it's the "west" doesn't mean warm, dress accordingly! Wyoming is windy everywhere, all the time. And, the rocky mountains are huge and gorgeous. My '82 wing ran terrific with the exception of a fuel filter that turned to rubber(thanks ethanol). I replaced it and never had another problem. I'm planning on building a small tear drop trailer to tow behind for next year but earlier!
