Looking very good, Bug. :good: Looks like nice thick material you are using for the floating flanges. ?..is it 3/8"? Using flex tubing on runners should work well.

You mention that your doughnuts have o-ring grooves but that you flipped them over. Why are you not going to use o-rings?

The material is .325" it was some scrap from a past job I had. I'm not sure why they used that size. The copper flanges are 1/4 (.250") and the alternator bracket I made was out of 3/8 (.375"). It's just some oddball stuff.

I don't have much faith in the groves I cut for the o-rings sealing well. I'm being a bit lazy flipping them over. I used gasket material to cover the entire flat area of the head and made sure the runners were completely flat for a good seal. The o-rings didn't line up well when the manifold was rigid, and the flats allow some play.

I got the carb stack back in the frame, and finished the pieces for the right side today.

Ok, a little progress. I finished assembling the left side and started her for a few seconds. I don't have coolant in her yet, so I didn't get a good run, but it was good to hear her start again.

I have the alternator back in, so it's back on to figuring out the gas tanks!

I really messed up here though... remember those paper towels I was using to protect the intakes? Well, I forgot 2 of them... bits and pieces of charred paper went flying out of the exhaust!

I'm gonna take that as a very good suggestion. That's about the one thing you could use that would not get stuck or do damage. If it gets in, it will quickly burn up.

Paper is nothing compared to a steel washer. (Oh God I don't want to remember that day. :fiddle: ) Keep doing your best. Nice job.
Hey Jungo! Glad to see ya posting!

I'm so glad the paper towels were the only thing there! Steel washer! ouch!
