ok jyd has passed some good tests and its time to move on to other things.....we originally wanted to use the 1100 swing arm and final in jyd ... but there were problems that i eventually got cold feet on doing to make this work ...but now the 1200 swing arm and all is on hooch .....this proved to be a nice test on gearing for the hooched out motor with 1200 gearing in it ...my opinion between it and the 1000 gearing hooch has had is the that it appears hooch is faster with 1200 gearing as it is not so low that first is more of a problem than a benefit in taking off ....anyway what going to happen now is i am taking off the 1200 final and all and putting it on jyd where it came from ....and the 1100 final will go on hooch as i have tire and things require for this final to be road worthy ... i am still parts deficient with all other setups for hooch as in 1200 ..1500..or 1800 finals that i am working with ..i could go back to 1000 final but have desire to at all ..just to low for my taste....

anyway this is about jyd ...and getting the 1200 final back on it ... both bike are in the doghouse and ready to work on to do this i hope to start today :thanks:

yes it is taller geared ... and rpm at 70mph is reduce on the 1200 final of 2.83 as oppose to the 3.09 final of the 1100 .....the 1000 final is 3.43 witch is the lowest of all oldwings at the final drive..... this has nothing to with motor gearing witch varies hugely also between yrs ...1200 is the same as 1500 and 1800 finals 2.83

in my opinion its looking like the 1100 final will be as you are thinking ...the one that will put the power to road the best and of coruse the fastest choice ...and lower the load on the clutch ...to me this seems to be what is in the most stress with the 1200 final in hooch

Believe the difference was to give you lower rev's at highway speeds, with more roll on power with out down shifting. Believe the 1100's had fastest 1/4 mile times, but I found 60 M P H was about 4,000, but about 80 on 1200's. Not near as busy at road speeds, sort of like a 4/11 rear end, great up to 100 M P H with out more than a 3 or 4 speed trans that's about it, but torque will plaster a grin on your face, & pin you to back of your seat .

yep cant wait denver ... there will be some good power matched gearing here i am sure ....you must have had an 80=81 year 1100 ...hooch will be gear more like 83 1100 ...much less rpm at speed than earlier 1100s

Yes 83 was final step to the 1200 run, close if not the same as 1200's, but 84's were geared a little different than 85-87 in trans. Sold both of the 81's I had over the years, & replaced with 12's, much better suited to my liking. That's been my interest in single carb, with 1500 swing arm back like we spoke of, as 12's could use some help on bottom end. They have plenty of top, way more than later models, & better fuel management would help on both. :good:

seems my hammer is froze to the ground ... ill wait a bit ... while i wait for 1500 final drive to show up sheesh ...the hammer needs to be used on me head a bit ...seems it was tilted

Jyd is getting a 1500 rear built onto the 1200 swing arm.
This one shows the overall fit. Wheel and tire seem nicely centered.
This shows the 1500 caliper bracket nicely centered on the brake rotor.
This shows the 1500 caliper bracket before modification to fit the 1200 swingarm.
This is how it looks ready to fit.

Looks great!!! :clapping: Glad it worked as postings said on some other sites, about the only thing left for me to accumulate for my is fenders, instruments, headlight, with brackets, & 1100 bike for all my parts to transplant onto. Thanks for sharing your progress!!! :thank_you:

the only not used by me was the outside washer others used there was no room for it after getting brake caliper bracket centered ...i dicided agains pressuring it in as in my observeation it looks like the drive side of swig arm would give first ..i cant see that being good ... so left it out ...not sure why it worked that way ...but sure to be here first ...instead of some kind of unequal torque put on things ...denver .....still everything is in the making ..no hard facts yet ...made this mod hasnt moved yet :thanks:

Is it the 1200 axil or 1500's, & is the 1200 all the way through the nut? What about the spacers?

the 1200 axle bolt was used ...it very close to going all the way through at this moment it out in the shop cant look at it to verify...anyway i saw no need to give up the 1500 axle as i have the swing arm and all for another build just lacking other parts ...same with 1800 swing arm ...lacking parts....

as for wheel spacer didnt have one ..had to make one ..im sure the 1500 wheel spacer would work as nothing changes there ...once that was done there was no room for a washer or anything else on outside of brake bracket ....

Saunders Goldwing facts has the procedure laid out pretty clearly. :builder: Shows washer & 1 spacer in pics :read:
