Im trying to find out if the 1100 and the 1000 cranks have the same size Jernals. I found out that the 1000 crank will not turn in the 1100 case, I can fly cut the case to take care of that problem but I do not have a 1100 crank to compair with.
Has anyone came out with a conversion chart for the bearing sizes, colors to decimal.
any help would be appreciated.

Obviously the stroke is different on the two different displacement engines...I'm assuming that's why you would need to cut the casing. As far as journal diameters, I THINK those specs are in the service manual. I'm on dial-up here at home, so I can't get in the Gallery and verify, but it might be worth a look.

Yes I'm curious as to your plan as well. If you are planning a stroker keep in mind these are interference motors.

the stoke is the same in the 1000 and 1100s ...but i think the 1100 crank is beefyer but not real sure where ...ive never heard of a crank switch before but that dosnt mean it aint possible

yes thats the way i understand it ....when you get to the 1200 ....its mostly a stroked 1100 its piston is just slightly bigger than a 1100 but the stroke is about a 1/4" longer

Guys, My motives are simple, Im trying to put together a spare engine with all my spare parts i already have but i dont have a 1100 crank to compair with. I knew that the strok was the same but no idea about journal size. I already found out That the splines in the transmission are larger on the 1100 because im trying to change my gear ratio using the 1000 secondary gears and 83 trans. I think i know someone who can build a gear that will merge the two together.

I was working on my crank'ectomy transplant yesterday. 83 to 83 1100
I measured the main journals @ 1.891"

I found these bearing dimensions in the manual.

Keep in mind, I'm not a machinist nor have ever played one on TV. I have the (2) cranks out and available if you need any pictures or verification. I'm waiting for Pastigage to come in on Monday so I can check bearing clearance.

The one crank has a rusty/crusty flywheel, so I'm planning on junking it. Not sure if you might want it to clean up instead of trying the 1000 crank?

i had a bunch of crud on a crank ...idont think it means the crank is bad ...ididnt make me think that it wasnt useable ....but i must say that everyone else thought that the motor was trashed ...cause of this and crud in the cylinders .....i assuming the cranks are out ...it sould be easy to see if there same

When I was putting the engine back together for a new waterpump and rear cover, I noticed this through the timing access.

I was really nervous about what the rest of the internals looked like. With nothing to lose, I split the case. Since I had another 83 with bad cylinder walls I opened that on up too. So I'm using the best parts from each to build one hopefully good one.

The rest of the inside looked pretty good, I think this was stored with the rear cover off and the flywheel got really rusty. The other crank/flywheel looks good, so using that one.

Ok, on the 1000 vs the 1100 it looks like the Rods and the Mains are the same But the Sprocket is narrower and wouldn't be worth pursuing. Another crank off EBAY isn't all that bad.

On the Question about the Rust on the flywheel, it looks like water in the Oil. You might find the same thing on your shift shaft and any other steel parts in the bottom of the Engine. (Oil floats on Water)

thats right i had forgotten its the primary chain that beefed up on the 1100.....im still thinking that the 1000 crank rust is not that bad ...but pic can be deceaving...i have a motor that has not been broken down with that much rust in it ...i will be starting it soon ...and will report the condit of the lower end when i get it running ....so much to do and to cold to do it

Rust wont be a problem unless it's in the Bearings also, looking at your water line it doesn't look like you have that problem. You might have rust in the Shift Drum Bearing but it doesn't turn all the time. I think you will be Ok.
