What do each of the marks on the crankshaft mean. T= 1= F=

So if your told to line up on the T1 mark, each of which has a line, do you line up with the T or the 1 when installing your timing belts. I have read it both ways, line up on the T mark, line up on the 1 mark, It's driving me crazy. :swoon: :smilie_happy: :smilie_happy:

Yeah, I'm watching a Steve Saunders video on a 1200 right now and he says line up on the T mark on the 1200. Mine has line up marks in the middle of the T, 1 and the F mark.

"T" = Timing
"F" = Firing

For timing belts it's as has been said "T1" centerline lined up with the mark next to the sight hole on top of the engine and the pulleys lined up with marks at top of the shield behind them.

This might help.. The T-1 is used to set your Timing The F-1 is read when you are shooting a timing light in at idle on #2 spark wire, F-2 will be read on the #4 spark wire, this can be done using the timing inspection cap at idle..Oil must be new and clean to read it well..

There's also another line with no marks used to check timing dynamically, with a light, at 3k rpm. I've always set mine statically, but I just read a post stating that many Dyna ignitions are off because the rotor from Dyna is larger than stock. Recommendations are to drain a quart if oil to lessen splashing losses out the hole. Another suggestion is to use a length of PVC to catch the splash.

I tried a piece of PVC, light flashed off everything but the timing marks but beave's plug works nice.
