I'm laid off (right before Christmas and heating oil season, too) and I figured it couldn't hurt to let folks here know I'm available for freelance design and drafting work. PM if you've got anything.

Wish it was me laid off instead of you. I can always enjoy more time at home. Almost time now to go back to work for me. :Awe:

BTW, been known to do scale drawings in Microsoft Excel every once in a while: :hihihi:

Sorry to hear this. It pisses me off that so many companies do layoffs when it is a difficult time of year to find another job. A lot of companies down here close up for 3-4 weeks so things don't start firing until the middle of January again. Hope that a better job comes your way soon Chuck

Thanks for the good wishes. Yeah, I can't expect anything to happen before mid January. I'd love to go freelance so I'm putting the word out everywhere. My AutoCAD is a bit out of date, I have been using Solidworks for several years.

You did that in Excel? I know it can do a lot more than crunch numbers but I didn't know you could draw with it.

Yep, basic lines and shapes. Set the cell and column size to make a grid and you have standard grid paper to scale anything from. I often have to go into the field at a shipyard, take measurements and transfer the rough image to a cleaned up version in an electronic file quickly and I have found Excel is the fastest way to do that.
