Missed the mail run today, so I back the bike out and make a run up to the post office to drop a time sensitive application, and a netflix disc while I'm at it. On the way I had to switch to reserve, so I swung by the gas station to fill'er up. First time out of the house today and it felt too soon to go back home already, so I went for a short ride in the state park along the coast. Not far, about 10 minutes out - 10 minutes back. While riding a very narrow curvy road, checking out the scenery, I notice a whale spouting out in the water. So I stop to watch for a minute. I pull over to the edge of the road and stop, put my foot down and there was nothing there. By the time I realize the dirt was about 4 inches lower than the pavement, it was too late and the bike was past the point of saving embarrassment. The only thing I could do was get out from under as it rolled into the bushes. I shut the key off, then shut the gas off while instinctively rehearsing a few old favorite words. I tried to raise the bike as I'm reminded my pain killers can only do just so much, take a short break and heave at it again, but I'm panting and swetting with less stamina each time I tried to raise the bike uphill with some part of it caught in the heel of my shoe leaving me with only one leg to work with. How do I get myself into these situations! After a short while a passing car slows to a stop and the window goes down and a woman asked if I needed help. Quite winded by then I managed to accept whatever help she could be. Then a little old grampa guy jumps out of the other side of the car and grabs the bike and starts pulling on it but accomplishing nothing. As he starts figiting for places to grab I instruct him where to get a handle and together we right the bike. The only damage was to the right side mirror, but man, what a stupid thing to do!

So....how was your day?

Ron...PLEASE tell me ya got video?! :beg:
:smilie_happy:
I feel your pain, tho...I did that the very 1st time I ever rode a 'Wing...way back in the '70s. Pulled up in a parking lot next to my brother and some friends, and just happened to stop right next to the ONLY pothole in the parking lot....flipped right over on the side.
Hope you're ok, anyway, and glad someone stopped to help....that's rare these days. :eek:k:

No video. I was only going to the post office. If them nice old folks hadn't stopped to help I'd prolly still be there. (and I didn't take my pills with me, either!)

I have laid mine down on the engine guards exactly 4 times.

Once in the alley right at my garage, damn gravel.
Next was a soft shoulder out in the desert, damn sand.
Next was near Peesmo beach making a U turn, damn sand again!
Last time was just a couple days ago outside the garage, bike was sitting almost vertical when I was swapping headlight bulbs trying out the LED bulb. Went to turn the bars to get the headlight nut off behind the fairing and over she went. Damn gravity!

Ron, I feel your pain! Last September my Wife and I went down to the shore heading for Cape May. We stopped at the beach and decided to park. It was "Bike Week" across the bridge in Wildwood NJ and there were thousands of Harley's everywhere. The weather couldn't have been better, sunny, low 60's during the day and clear. With all of the traffic, we had to back the bike in at the end of a street behind some cars. The road had a pretty steep crown in it, but we parked with the front end facing up hill.

Enjoyed our day as sun and the temps started to drop. We started up to head out. The bike had cooled down to 48 degrees and I choked it for a few minutes. Not quite warmed up yet, but enough to get going, the missus climbs on and we start to pull out. I am leaning a little left as we climb the crown and let out the clutch. Just as we start to move, the engine stalls!!! Over we go to the left like a couple a dead elephants! Just at that moment, a whole slew of Harleys come charging around the corner!!!!    :Awe:

They stop and help us get back up and off we went! Real embarrasing for the Wife and I. BUT...if that wasn't enough...when we got home that night, as I stopped in front of our driveway, our house lights were off and I could not see much. I though the side stand was down, but, it was only halfway....down we go again to our left!!   At this point, I think my Wife has had enough and won't trust me to take out on the bike anymore, but she says, "I'm sorry, I should have waited until you said it was OK to get off!" (Yeah, off the hook that time!!)

Can't tell you how many times I dropped my 87 Aspy when we had it...several for sure and the last time was on the way up a pass out of Jackson Hole, Wyo. I had pulled over on a breakdown lane on a cambered left curve....it was lightly raining and I had something flapping behind me...a plastic bag I had put a daypack in... I was hurrying so left the bike running and in neutral....well this ol'idjit climbed back on and as I swung my leg over, my toe hit the shift lever, popped it into first and down I went...all the way over with me and my unfastened helmet rolling out into the road...dammit!

I broke the left mirror and since it was lying with the top downhill and I was at 7 or 8 thousand feet, I couldn't budge it. Two gents stopped, one a Harley guy in his truck and they lifted it up for me and left me in good shape...nice guys for sure...they were there in about 30 or 40 seconds.

Well as soon as I got home to Idaho I fixed the bike and sold it as quickly as I could. No bikes I can't lift for this ol'phart. That is just dumb when you are in my shape...

When I bought my 83 standard for the hack, I rode it for a while as a solo bike...I was astounded at how manageable a bike it was....the cumbersome and heavy plastic makes a huge difference for me....I almost didn't hack it I liked it so much.

Once I hacked there was no way I was going back...I have absolutely none of those issues any more....nor many others....but instead, a lot of bennies.

Wait till you take the training wheels off and try to impress girls. :cheeky:
:smilie_happy: You see training wheels on the bike in my avatar or any of the pics I've posted you may need your meds adjusted. As for impressing the girls. They are. :Doh2: :thanks:

I have dropped bikes before , and I dropped my Goldwing on my left foot about a year ago , IN my Garage . and I have give it a lot of thought to someday making my Goldwing into a Trike . May never happen , but I have thought about it.

when I took the motorcycle safety course, I dumped the school bike after a 10 foot wheelie. Thought it was out of gear, and let go of the clutch. On my RZ I dumped my bike going over railroad tracks. Another time I hit the marbles and slid in a parking lot, and sprained my knee bad. It was brown, green, purple and black for weeks.

1990, Sunset Honda in San Luis Obispo, I'm running slightly behind and pull up short under the service canopy with the entire service staff (mechanics, technicians, service writers) all watching intently at my expertly executed high speed maneuver and stop, at which point my left boot heel decided it was comfortable right where it was and would not move from the peg, resulting in a slow motion tip over on the left side.....I arose to a standing ovation.
