If you have sparks and it won't start. Try swapping the points to capacitor leads.

You nailed it. Had them backwards.
I've had the plug leads swapped causing the same thing.
I've found out having the primary coil leads swapped causes the same thing too :head bang:

You got that right. I have read some real sorrowful stories here. I know some of the guys here really love their bikes but there is a cost limit for me.

now if I can just find the two screws that hold the points cover on. the heck with them I'll ride with out them.

Took her out today and the difference is amazing. Before the throttle response was poor, sluggish. Now it's like a new bike. I had to restrain myself. The 5 mile trip from my house to the freeway is a bikers dream. Roller coaster asphalt. I enjoyed every bit of it.
 
So glad to read when things work out. Congratulations! Second to the C5 I really like the points ignitions myself.
