Can anyone tell me if a 1978 gl1000, will mount in a 1981 gl1100 frame??

It will bolt right in.

Take into account the differences in the ignition, you'll need the GL1000 points, capacitor etc.

its not a peice of cake but not difficult either .....the big deal will be the gearing change ....the 78 motor will make it a lot taller close to the 83 1100 gearing ...its first gear is tall but plenty useful and works great ....i know all this as my 79 1000 was fitted with the final drive from a 1100 ....it will be about 3600 rpm at 70mph i loved it on my bike ....putting the 1100 carbs on the 78 motor is a good ideal too there simply better than the 78 1000 carbs period......good luck :mrgreen:

What about and where are the point on the gl1000, and the capasitors??

The points are on the rear end of the left head and the capacitors are under the fake tank.
