So in the process of doing the rear breaks on my 80, I decided to pull the rear wheel :crying: What a surprise!!! I never looked to closly at the rear drive workings when I changer the tire and I should have... somewhere there was a whole thread on this rear drive and i just read it and forgot it until now...

Yhank goodnes for a parts bike... So now the 80 has an 82 final drive. After a test ride I am almost sorry I have decided to sell it. I think it will get better milage with the taller geering. Picked up 5 MPH at 4 grand. :yahoo:

It's a bit hard to tell by the pics but they don't look all that bad, dry yes and probably alittle sloppy but with grease I bet there's still a good 50k miles left. Again, judging by the pics.

I know the feeling! When I pulled my '81 final drive, the spider there fell out in pieces! The splines were crunchy! Luckily, it was the parts bike and I got it to restore the '82 which only had 23k miles on it. (Only one minor thing, a slightly blown engine) Just look at this piston rod. (I think with some heat I could bend it back and use some JB weld huh?) :smilie_happy:
