What is this deelawhopper?

What is it's function?
What should I do with it?
Should I take it apart and clean it? If I do, will I be able to reseal it?
 
That is the TRAC anti dive on 83 models.
It limets the amount of front end dive.I have mine set at 4,being the firmest.

Nice polished forks,I really like that. :clapping:

It is the anti dive unit on the 83 aspencades and maybe others. I did not take mine apart when I changed my fork seals and oil.
In theory it prevents the front dive during heavy braking. I have found that it appears to be ineffective when using the linked braking system. I haven't really played with trying to apply the front and back at the same time and see if it helps. It may be helping but I have not ridden a goldwing without it so how would I know????? :read: :rtfm:
 
This is on my 83 Interstate. The Interstate hardly dives at all compared to the Standard which dives really bad. I assumed not diving (much) was somehow related to the linked system. Now I know better. I won't take it apart and mess with the unknown, since I've already opened enough cans of worms that I won't be able to finish this weekend. I need to lube those floating pins, but I'm scared to touch those boots. :?

I did not lube the pins but I did replace the little seals on mine to keep dirt out..
 
They are also adjustable, you will notice there are four positions that can bet set. This controls the amount of dive restriction and they work really well. Obviously make sure that the same position is set on both sides. I did take mine apart, cleaned and put new seals in, there pretty simple.
 
Those floating pin's Must be Lubricated, and if the seal are bad replace them.

That is a safety item, your caliper's must float and need to move, your brake would not function properly if one of those floating pins was seized and did not float easily.

That is a Brake Maintenance Item, Even if you dont go fast you must have Optimal brakes.

A seized pin can wear brakes out faster get you worse gas mileage, or reduce brake force

I had 7 deers run across the road in front of me last year, that scared the bratwurst right out me, because they were Very close.

That Reminds me of a saying, Does a Bear schnitz in the woods yea and so do i, at least that day i did.
