By reading my manual,it appears the gl1100 is 15mm in bore size,if thats true, would it hurt to replace it with a 14mm master cylinder?thanks

Not sure on that other than when I put a rear master cylinder on that was smaller, it couldn't pump enough quantity of fluid to be useable. I went a larger MC which pumps more fluid than stock which brought the pedal up higher when under pressure.

I used a Chinese built front master that is a little smaller , no problem here... it was 14MM is the common size for front M/C`s from china, there are a few sellers selling the 15-or 16 MM ones from China but are usually 50 and up, I paid 15 bucks for mine.
Here`s the type I bought, got the extra seal with mine but didnt get the extra switch this one includes, my switch failes in a matter of weeks but the M/C itself is doing fine.

As long as you don't have a linked system in my experience you will have more brake pressure with a smaller mc bore diameter ( currently running a 12.7mm CBR mc)

Mine is not linked
Hopefully I answered you question correctly. 14mm will work great providing it is good quality ( my CBR one is used honda from my collection)
