I know I've seen this discussed in the past, but I can't find it again to save my life. I've spent about 45 mins here at work looking (shhh) and I'm coming up empty. I've got 7/8 clubman bars on my 79, and the small button for the turn signal is missing. That small metal tab is not fun to try and push back and forth with your thumb. (even with gloves on) I'm planning to upgrade my hand controls to something newer. Has anyone done this before? I'm not afraid of soldering. I've done a fair ammt of that in the past. Would it be as simple as getting a newer set of 7/8 controls (maybe off a CBR) and re-soldering the correct wires? I know it's been done before, but does anyone have any experience with this?

Thank you!

A switch is a switch provided it is a 12 volt switch. You could get a continuity tester and figure out the the wire code, jot it down and look at GL code and make your diagram and convert the wiring. I would look for things that may affect your conversion, things like self cancelling turn signals and be certain they can be used manually.
+1 on do-able.

Nice! Thanks, Mike! For 15 bucks I might pick those up, but I'm always really leery of anything cheap, shipping out of Shanghai. Had a few bad experiences, and you kinda get what you pay for. I found a couple cycle salvage places here in the Boise area I might go and check out on Monday too. I'd rather pay a little extra for some used working controls and get them locally than wait about 3 weeks to get them. :)

With the Chinese stuff I pretty much expect to get a few turds every once in awhile but in the main it has been fairly good gear. I normally buy one as a sample and then order more if the quality is good.

or you could contact my sister in Harper Oregon and get a whole 80 or 82

Gosh sakes.. I went to Harper once. The livestock outnumber people 2 to 1 out there. :) I'll shoot you a PM. :)

True. For the price, I might just give them a shot!

I'm doing just this on my 82, getting better looking, newer switches on LH and RH sides. for the LH switch I want to find a hyabusa (or similar suzuki) switch that has flash to pass button. as zman said above, it's just wires so you just have to know what to connect to what... see the OEM maintenance manual for a wiring diagram. I did this on my RH switch b/c it looks cleaner than the OEM kill switch.

Wow that's great. I'd love to have the newer electronic parts and the newer look as well. Are the Hyabusa controls 7/8 or 1 inch?
