Are gl1100 coils 3 ohm and if not,do any wings use them?thanks

Thanks joe,im feeling lazy right now lol.im sure the info is on the net somewhere

I think the earlier years were higher resistance, but not 3 ohm? The mp08 Honda coils come in right around 3 ohms. Mine measure 3.1. They are on many newer Hondas, 1200's, 1500's, Magna's etc. I have had good luck with them and a Dyna with no resistor.

Pretty sure they are 3ohm. I have some aftermarket coil extra spark devices I pulled from my CB1100 and was going to use them on my 80 GL1100 and found someplace that they are 3 ohm and would work with them.
That is 80-81, not sure of 82-83. On the 82-83 there is a resistor, not sure if it is inside the coil or outside but resistance should be measured after the resistor and it`s resistance should not be included in the final Ohm reading. I would think 80-83 are the same but I`m no expert...Do some googling to be sure.
Here ya go.

What I have found with my research and limited 1100 parts and experience. Hopefully someone can fill in the blanks.

I have experienced that the 83 coils would not run my 80 engine. The resister is on the outside of both coils on the one set of coils but not the other. I do not remember which.
There is a thread on this forum which discussed this very topic.

i run 83 coils on a 83 engine in my 80 bike but i dis connected the ballest res. when i installed them. my orig coils had huge cracks in them and would shut the engine off in the rain(no fun at 80 in the fast lane and can't see for the spray to get over!) and have had no problems with it that way with around 9,000 miles on these coils now.

Just measured the coils from my '82...they are both .7 ohms. And the resistor is 2.2 ohms.
Interesting , so 3 ohms with the resistor..Sounds like they can be used on the 80-81 with the resistor or vise versa.
